This was a strange one: we got a call from a dealership in Irvine where this Ford dual cab pickup truck was about to be considered a total loss or total write off because a rat had started living inside the truck and then died inside the truck.
Unfortunately, the smell of dead rat lingered even after the truck had been totally detailed, actually detailing and deep cleaning are never enough with smells this strong. They had tried to sell it once and the customer returned it due to the smell.
We worked with the dealership to help them get this solved. We explained to them that unless you remove the source, the rat’s dead body, the smell will remain. They disassembled the truck in order to get at the body and left it disassembled until we came in and removed the smell. They found the wet, dead animals stuck to the frame. Apparently it was thrown up and deep into an area of the engine compartment.
So the result was that teamwork paid off, the truck didn’t have to be written off by the insurance company. It was reassembled and it was sold!
